FAQs

Q. What style of yoga do you teach?

A. My  classes can all be described as Vinyasa style, in that movement is linked with breath and the body is placed in asanas (poses) in a deliberate, mindful way.

In the Thursday vinyasa classes, we move through flowing sequences of asanas to build heat in the body, then move to some longer held poses to work on strength and focus, before cooling down with some nourishing stretches to enhance flexibility. Modifications are always available to make these classes truly suitable for all levels - you start where you are!

The slow flow classes are a much more gentle version of Vinyasa yoga. Movements are deliberate and slow, still linking movement with breath, but we take our time to explore each posture and limit the use of some of the stronger poses and transitions found elsewhere.

Q. What do I need to bring to class?

A. You will need to wear comfortable clothes you can move easily in. You'll need a yoga mat eventually (but for your first few sessions you are welcome to borrow one from me), and you may want to bring some water and  a blanket for savasana (relaxation).  Please arrive 5 minutes early for class when possible.

Q. Should I eat before doing yoga?
A. It's best not to eat a heavy meal for a few hours before you practice, as a full stomach can feel quite uncomfortable in some of the postures we'll move through. It's ok to eat a small meal 1-2 hours before though (and everyone is different - you know your own body best).

Q. Do you have an age limit?

A. Mature teens and adults are welcome. I don't have any classes geared towards children at the moment.

Q. Do you do one-to-ones?

A. Yes, I'm happy to teach private or semi-private classes - please request a slot online or contact me to discuss your requirements.

Q. Can I bring my phone into class?

A. I ask everyone to switch their phone off and put it away for the duration of the class as we try to have the hour free from electronic distractions.  (Exceptions can be made if necessary).

Q. Do you practice barefoot?

A. Yes, I encourage you practice barefoot if you're comfortable doing so.

Q. What if I have to miss a class?

A. If you've prebooked a block of lessons and can't make a class, you can either come to another of my classes that week, or have a friend come in your place.

Q. Do you teach anywhere else?

A. I also teach hot yoga at the Hotpod studio in Marlborough. You can view the schedule of classes and book online here.

Q. How do I pay for classes?

A. Block bookings are for a course of classes, payable in advance, and are non-refundable. You can also book and pay on an ad hoc/ drop-in basis - please check that there is space for you before making your way to class and give 12 hours notice if you have booked and have to cancel a class to allow your space to be offered to someone else. For students or those or in challenging circumstances I can offer a reduced rate so please get in touch if this applies to you.
